The Team You’ll Work With:

The Mayor’s Office of Climate and Environmental Justice (MOCEJ) is a team of architects, lawyers, data and climate scientists, engineers, policy advisors, geologists, and city planners working to create a city where our 8.8 million New Yorkers can live, work, learn, and play in healthy, resilient, and sustainable neighborhoods. MOCEJ integrates sustainability, resiliency, and environmental justice into one coordinated approach across several climate and environmental offices, all working to make our buildings efficient and resilient; our infrastructure climate-ready; our streets, open spaces, and public realm active, safe, and healthy; and our energy clean and resilient. The Problems You’ll Solve:

The Project and Outreach Coordinator will play a crucial role in supporting the Climate Strong Communities program within MOCEJ. This position will focus on community engagement, data analytics, and project coordination to advance equitable resiliency projects in areas facing disproportionate climate risks. 

Community Engagement and Outreach 

  • Support the management and implementation of public engagement strategies for the Climate Strong Communities program
  • Develop, lead, and participate in community engagement activities to understand neighborhood adaptation needs and priorities
  • Foster and maintain relationships with civic organizations and networks to advance policy and program implementation

Data Analytics and Research

  • Conduct research and perform data analysis to support decision-making and program evaluation
  • Develop and maintain databases and dashboards to track project metrics and outcomes
  • Use GIS and other analytical tools to map and analyze climate vulnerabilities and impacts

Project Coordination

  • Assist in the coordination and implementation of climate resilience projects
  • Track project progress, timelines, and deliverables
  • Prepare reports and presentations on project outcomes and impact Representation and Communication
  • Represent MOCEJ at meetings, community forums, conferences, and other events
  • Develop communication materials to explain complex climate and environmental justice concepts to diverse audiences

General Support

  • Assist with special projects as needed • Perform other duties as assigned by MOCEJ leadership

About You 

  • You have a Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, urban planning, public policy, data science, or a related field
  • You have 1-3 years of experience in project coordination, community outreach, or environmental justice work 
  • You have strong data analysis skills and proficiency with relevant software and tools 
  • You are proficient in GIS and spatial analysis tools • You have excellent communication and interpersonal skills 
  • You have the ability to work effectively with diverse communities and stakeholders 
  • You have a passion for climate action and environmental justice
  • You have the ability to navigate City government and communicate effectively with administrative and technical leaders, particularly on technically complex topics
  • You are resourceful and flexible, while being organized and detail-oriented 

Salary 

The City of New York Office of the Mayor’s compensation package includes a market competitive salary, equity for all full-time roles and exceptional benefits. Our cash compensation range for this role is $75,000 – $80,000. Final offers may vary from the amount listed based on candidate experience and expertise, and other factors.
