Engineering Co-op

Location: St. Louis, MO
The Carondelet (St. Louis) Plant provides some of the largest food, pharmaceutical, and industrial companies with Phosphate Salts and Phosphoric Acids used in a variety of products ranging from baby food to cake mixes, cheeses to meat, poultry, and seafood, and treatment of products from water to semiconductors to asphalt.

Semester Offered: Spring/Summer 2025 (January - August 2025)

Pay Rate: $32.50/hour

Scope: This position will assist with identifying and implementing process improvements through the application of sound engineering principles. This position will interact with operators, maintenance, supervision, plant leadership and corporate support personnel. In addition to providing support and assistance to all areas of the operation, this position can have ownership of the management of individual projects.

  • Develop projects, innovation, and sustainability in plant, with responsibilities ranging from scoping, engineering, and construction oversight
  • Assist with identifying and developing improvements to process capabilities, safety, procedures, and competitive position
  • Coordinate troubleshooting, de-bottlenecking and plant tests with other technical personnel
  • Assist with performing technical and economic evaluations of alternative processes and determine relative costs compared to existing processes
  • Assist with monitoring environmental regulations and performance against regulations
  • Participate in plant safety activities

What skills and experience do I need to be successful in this role? 

  • Pursuing a B.S. degree in Chemical or Mechanical Engineering
  • Completed sophomore year in college with a GPA of 2.5 or higher
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills. Ability to effectively interact with all levels of the organization
  • Ability to set priorities, manage multiple projects and demonstrate strong attention to detail
  • Highly motivated and eager to learn
  • Strong computer skills
  • Ability to relocate, if not local
