Actuarial & Risk Summer Intern

Position Specific Description

Palms Actuarial & Risk department provides risk management insight and actuarial analysis for both NextEra Energy’s risks that are transferred to its captive and for all of Palms’ third-party insurance and reinsurance business. The group is responsible for actuarial data reconciliation and data management, evaluating insurance and reinsurance deal economics, evaluating prospective rate levels, analyzing claims liabilities, updating catastrophe models, maintaining the risk capital model, managing underwriting portfolio strategy and optimization, and developing the ERM framework internal to Palms.

 

The Actuarial & Risk Summer intern will support the various responsibilities of the Actuarial & Risk department. The intern will provide support for and gain exposure to each of the main Actuarial functions: Data management, Pricing and Reserving; as well as the main Risk functions: ERM framework, reinsurance, capital modeling, catastrophe modeling, and portfolio optimization. The intern will perform data extraction and analysis using analytical software, like Python; and prepare reports and presentations using Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.

 

Preferred Qualifications: 

Registered to sit for or have passed a CAS exam

 

Job Overview

To be considered for an internship, you must be actively enrolled at a college or university as a full-time student seeking a bachelor’s degree or higher. You must also have a current cumulative GPA of 3.00 or higher (on a 0.00 to 4.00 scale).

Job Duties & Responsibilities

  • Assists department with assigned projects
  • Completes challenging projects and assignments
  • Presents final project to senior leadership at the end of the internship
  • Assumes responsibility for own travel, lodging, and transportation necessary to be available for the program
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned

Required Qualifications

  • High school grad / GED
  • Maintain active enrollment in a Bachelor or higher degree program
  • Maintain cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher
