Student Support Services Student Administrative Assistant

Hourly Rate and Schedule Requirements: $12 dollars an hour and up to 20 hours a week. This will depend upon the work study award amount. Hours are flexible to meet class schedule obligations. However, should be available to work Monday – Friday between 8am and 5pm.  

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (assign % of time spent in each area) 

10% Develop and maintain office forms and procedures and assist with administrative tasks.  

25% Answer central telephone system and direct calls accordingly. Receive the public and answer questions, in person and by telephone; respond to inquiries from employees, citizens, and others, and refer, when necessary, to appropriate person, official, or department.  

5% Operate listed office machines as required.  

10% Prepare outgoing mail; sort and distribute incoming mail.  

10% Duplicate and distribute materials.  

20% Compose, type, and edit correspondence, reports, memoranda, and other material.  

10% Assist public with the use of department facilities.  

5% Maintain office supply inventory.  

5% Other duties as assigned by supervisor. 

 

REQUIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS  
Education and Experience:  

Graduation from high school or GED equivalent.  

Work-Study Award Required 

Minimum Grade Point Average: 2.0 

Year in School Classification (Freshman – Senior) 

Necessary Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:  

Working knowledge of computers and electronic data processing.  

Working knowledge of modern office practices and procedures.  

Skill in operation of listed tools and equipment.  

Ability to effectively meet and communicate with the public.  

Ability to make independent judgments which have minor impacts on the organization.  

 

PREFERED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS 

Preferred (2) years of increasingly responsible related experience

Associate Dean Academic Affairs.

Through their work in this position, the student will become acquainted with the following Profiles of Undergraduate Learning

Communicator – Students will learn to become better communicators through building relationships with supervisor, the School of Education Faculty, Staff, Students, and the University Community through interactions involving research projects with SOE faculty. There is potential for students to be involved with faculty research and research presentations. 

Problem Solver – Students will practice critical thinking, evaluative and analytical skills through engagement the SOE community and the larger IUPUI community this includes answering student questions about programs in the SOE or being able to direct students to the correct faculty or staff member.  

Innovator – Students will learn the systems required for registration and process needed for student enrollment from interest to admissions.  Students will help market the school while working with the Associate Dean and Assistant Deans around recruitment and retention, particularly in the space of social media. 

Community Contributor – Through the critical aim of the SOE, students will learn about the ways that the voices of socially marginalized and oppressed groups can be uplifted and centered, and how the mechanisms that oppress them can be dismantled.
