IUI Student Job Description  

POSITION TITLE: Learning Lab assistant
ORGANIZATION NAME: IUI – School of Nursing Learning Lab
# of POSITIONS: 2

WORK SCHEDULE (AVERAGE HOURS/WEEK): Wednesday 10-1, Friday 2:30-5:30.  May have opportunity for more hours, depending on needs of lab.

WAGE/SALARY (HOURLY WAGE): $12.25

JOB DESCRIPTION:

General Purpose
Our facility is a resource center for the School of Nursing. We are a learning facility that primarily works with the simulation of medical treatments and/or events. Utilizing manikins and task trainers, students gain the fundamental knowledge necessary to become proficient in the care of patients in a real-world setting. Our high-fidelity simulators allow practice in real life scenarios representative of true cases in hospital settings. This gives the Student Nurse real practice experience that can be utilized on real people in a clinical setting.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities 

  • Set up and tear down simulation scenarios and skills lab activities.
  • Assist Simulation Coordinator with running simulation activities.
  • Assist in troubleshooting technology used in the skills lab and classroom spaces.
  • Inventory control.  Replenish lab and simulation supplies as needed.
  • Maintain cleanliness of lab supplies and equipment.
  • Greet and assist visitors to the learning lab.
  • Other duties as assigned.

No one.

Tools and Equipment Used 
Computer (including Microsoft OS), and manikins.

Skills/Experience Gained in this Role (related toward student’s career/academic progress or major, and Principles of Undergraduate Learning)

  • Core Communication and Quantitative Skills – Student will gain skills in communication by responding to inquiries from faculty, staff, and students.
  • Critical Thinking – Student will work independently to field questions and concerns from walk-in visitors, in the absence of full-time lab staff.  The student will address visitors’ needs by providing resources and referrals as needed.
  • Integration and Application of Knowledge – Student will acquire knowledge of various nursing skills and learn to set up classrooms with appropriate supplies for subject.
  • Intellectual Depth, Breadth, and Adaptiveness – Student will take on special projects as assigned, which relate to coursework currently being pursued.
  • Understanding Society and Culture – Student will gain cultural awareness and understanding by working with a diverse pool of incoming students, staff, and faculty.
  • Values and Ethics – Student will uphold confidentiality agreements with regards to personnel records and the filming of classes and class content.

QUALIFICATIONS
            Education and Experience

Prefer Pre-nursing, Pre-med, Allied Health students or those interested in the medical field. In general, two (2) years of increasingly responsible related experience.
