Substation Operations Technical Spec I/II/III

Job Summary

This position will be located either our Petersburg or Innsbrook office at the business's discretion. 

Responsible for supporting the development, implementation, and maintenance of all various forms of online and offline power equipment testing in Electric Transmission and Distribution Substations.  Knowledge of technology to include but not limited to testing practices of power transformers, circuit breakers and substation DC battery systems.  Research databases to identify systemic issues and report recommendations to leadership. Assist with the development of test procedures, operating procedures, and job aids. Lead training seminars and presentations. Perform second level review of nuclear test data. Operate various substation test equipment. Create documentation for issue resolution, including technical reports and SAP work orders. Perform other duties as requested or assigned.

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Experience

  • Substation Technical Specialist I: 1-2 years related experience in addition to preferred degree or its equivalence in additional demonstrated directly related experience/education;
  • Substation Technical Specialist II: 3+ years directly related experience 
  • Substation Technical Specialist III: 5+ years of directly related experience
  • Interface experience with Substation Engineering and Substation technical roles. Graduate of Electrical Equipment or System Protection Development Programs desirable.
  • Advanced computer skills and knowledge of software applications used in Electric Transmission maintenance and record keeping.
  • Knowledge of substation equipment, operations, and maintenance; Strong skills for obtaining, reporting and managing electronic databases. 
  • Extensive knowledge of Electric Transmission safety and work guidelines and procedures.
  • Have a working knowledge of control design drawings. 
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, teambuilding skills, organizational skills.
  • Strong leadership and problem-solving skills.
  • Must be capable of working with minimum supervision, must be self-motivated with excellent time management skills.
  • Must be capable of lifting, walking, climbing, stooping, bending, and prolonged standing;
  • Excellent organizational and project management skills.

Education Requirements

Education Level:

Degree or an equivalent combination of education and demonstrated related experience may be accepted in lieu of preferred level of education:

         Associate

Preferred Disciplines:

           Electric or Electronics Engineering Technology

Other disciplines may be substituted for the preferred discipline(s) listed above.
