Monthly Salary: $4,875 per month 

 

As a paid Summer Intern with the Technology Services team at BNSF Railway, it will present an exceptional opportunity for students to dive into the forefront of railroad technology services. Participants will gain practical experience across diverse areas, such as software development, cybersecurity, and data analytics, working under the guidance of seasoned professionals. This program emphasizes the real-world application of cutting-edge technologies and methodologies, preparing interns for impactful careers in the tech-driven landscape of the railroad industry. Through engaging projects and collaborative team environments, interns will significantly contribute to BNSF’s mission while building a solid foundation for their future. Successful Interns may be hired as full-time Management Trainees upon graduation.

This is a full-time, hybrid position requiring a minimum of 40 hrs/wk, split evenly between the office and remote work, with weekend or evening work as needed.

Travel is minimal, must have reliable transportation to and from work. 

Relocation is required if located more than 50 miles from the location.

Key responsibilities may include: 

Develop and implement critical transportation applications to improve BNSF's operational efficiency.

Support infrastructure projects by enhancing network and security infrastructure. 

Use analytics tools, such as train sensors, machine vision, drones, and more, to interpret and visualize data, supporting decision-making and operational insights.

Gain knowledge of critical safety system design, data modeling, data science principals’, .NET, C/C++, Python software development, web development custom designed frameworks, project management, and various internal systems.

Be exposed to the methodologies and principles associated with critical systems that demand a highly available and safe infrastructure.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Legally authorized to work in the United States and will be at least eighteen (18) years old upon hire.
  • Does not require sponsorship to obtain, maintain, or extend authorization to work in the United States. (For example, H1-B Visa or STEM OPT)
  • Pursuing a Bachelors or Graduate degree in Computer Science related degree program from an accredited university.
  • Have and will maintain at least a 2.75 cumulative GPA.
  • Have LESS THAN three (3) years of professional work experience, EXCLUDING internships, part-time jobs, or positions held while pursuing my undergraduate and/or graduate degree.
  • Have access to reliable transportation for the duration of the internship to and from my assigned BNSF location.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prior intern experience or less than 3 years of work experience in technology, Software Engineering, or a related field.
  • Have or have held a leadership position in a campus, community, or extracurricular organization.
  • Pursuing a degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, Information Systems, Decision Science, or Cyber Security
