Theatre Production Intern for Domestic Violence Play

Job Description

We're looking for a fun person that is passionate about using art and media to influence social change to join our team in promoting our nonprofit, Creative Embers, and our theatre project based on domestic abuse: Tulips.

‘Tulips’ is a multimedia drama project created by British artist and former Domestic Abuse Commissioner Michael Beakhouse. Inspired by personal and real-life professional experiences working with victim services, ‘Tulips’ addresses the various communities affected by Domestic Violence and was written to help audiences confront their understanding of gender roles and domestic abuse. The drama originally toured as an Arts Council-funded stage play in 2019, but was adapted for radio following the dramatic worldwide rise in domestic abuse incidents. The multi-media project has been positively received by domestic violence services and mainstream media (including BBC), who have responded well to its dramatic and balanced depiction of a controversial subject. Now, Creative Embers is bringing the show to American audiences - as a full-length stage play, an interactive ‘theatre in education’ play, and a free radio drama.

Creative Embers is a small 501c3 nonprofit organization that produces interactive works of art and media designed to educate the public and spark change within communities. Through fiscal sponsorships and micro-grants, we support organizations and independent artists creating forms of artistic activism.

About Creative Embers Internships:

Creative Embers internships are intended to support the professional development of each person. Interns will be introduced to the history and mission of Creative Embers and will set personalized goals that align with our mission. As an intern, you will play a pivotal role in broadening our community outreach and guiding our production and post-production work.

There are three semesters of Internships: Fall, Spring, and Summer. Each intern will be connected with a current Creative Embers project. If you have a specific project preference, please select your preferred choice in your application. While internships are unpaid, Creative Embers does not believe interns should work extensive hours each week when not being compensated. If an internship is through a college, specific hours may be required. In an effort to lessen the continued exploitation of labor, most of our internships reasonably range from 5-10 hours a week. Interns are able to work additional hours if preferred, but it will not be mandatory as part of the internship.

** All internships come with a promise of unlimited bagels and coffee.

** Any transportation costs for the internship will be paid.

Who Can Apply?
