(MET005J) Mechanical Engineering Intern

Summary

This role will be exposed to the basics of how to develop and design a variety of equipment, components, systems, and data for offshore platforms. Candidate will use basic understanding of engineering principles relating to material stress, fluid flow, and heat transfer. Will help engineers perform calculations, develop documents/requisitions, and compare bids. Works under supervision and all work is reviewed on completion.

Purpose:
 

As part of the Worley Graduate Community and under close supervision and mentorship within the mechanical engineering department, you will experience the delivery of engineering services to Worley and its customers.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform job responsibilities in Mechanical Engineering department under the direction of the Project Lead or a Senior Mechanical Engineer.
  • Expedite review and organization of calculations and design of pressure vessels, tanks, heat exchangers and pumps.
  • Willing to learn to interpret facility schematic drawings such as PFDs, P&IDs, and Equipment Layouts.
  • Helps prepare material and minor equipment specifications.
  • Helps review the supplier data to assure compliance with project requirements and specifications including ASME vessel code and API standards.
  • Keen safety awareness.
  • Able to perform job walks wearing personal protective equipment (PPE) in an operating facility, this will require ability to acquire govt. issued TWIC identification.

What you will bring

Technical/Industry Experience and Qualifications Requirements: 
 

  • Enrolled in program for Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from an accredited college or University.
  • 0 - 3 years of experience with engineering, design with-in oil and gas production facilities (no experience required).
  • Willing to locate to the Metairie area.
  • Advanced MS Office skills (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) required.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills required.

Education – Qualifications, Accreditation, Training:

Required:

  • Undertaking a recognized, relevant engineering degree.
  • Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering or ability to obtain by May 2026 with ability to start intern by June 2, 2025.

Preferred:
 

  • Equivalent degree that will lead to registration as a professional Engineer.
