2025 Summer Intern - Manufacturing Engineering Global Propulsion Systems

Job Description

Work Arrangement:    

Onsite: This role is categorized as onsite. This means the successful candidate is expected to report to their assigned work location on a full-time basis.  

 

What You’ll Do:   

You will participate in the GM Student Program Internship Program to successfully complete all deliverables for your specific work assignment(s) or project(s) including, but not limited to: completing any/all Corporate Required/Safety/Site Specific/Department Specific and any Optional TRAINING; gathering and analysis of data/information; development of findings and recommendations; providing assistance to other Team members, as required; presentation of findings and recommendations and status to affected Team(s) and to Leadership.

Perform specific project/assignment(s) within a Headquarters and/or manufacturing facility environment (including suppliers).

Can include involvement with any of the Propulsion Systems components or assemblies currently being manufactured or, those being developed for future manufacture, and any of the Machinery & Equipment &/or Manufacturing Processes related to them.

May include activities such as:  

Analyze conditions for make/purchase components for the best method of manufacture / assembly / test

Propose and/or evaluate manufacturing processes and/or plant layouts for machinery & equipment in assigned area and/or product program 

Direct the design, development, analysis, and/or improvement of manufacturing processes for an assigned area or program 

Provide technical support to Operations personnel for specific plant machinery & equipment, including specifications, purchase, runoff, installation, debug, PPAP, and ramp-up activities (Launch Execution)

Regular contact with others outside the assigned work group, and/or outside of GM, as required (e.g., work with Suppliers to GM)

Develop and/or design work process flow and jobs associated manufacturing processes 

Develop or design machinery & equipment, conveyance, operator or machine tooling, Tool Change procedures, etc.

Prepare and deliver reports on work progress/status and proposals 

Gather, analyze and report on data 

Investigate problems and recommend/analyze possible alternative solutions

 

Job locations can be at Manufacturing Engineering headquarters within the Global Technical Center in Warren, Michigan, at the Pontiac Engineering Center (Pontiac, MI) or in various plant locations throughout the U.S.

Additional Job Description

Required Qualifications:

Pursuit of a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, including: Electrical Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology, Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering Technology, Materials Science Engineering, Systems Engineering, Automotive Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering or Chemical Engineering 

Must be graduating between December 2025 and May 2028

Able to work fulltime, 40 hours per week during the summer months

Willingness to work in a plant/manufacturing environments or laboratory environments

Worked with or exposure to manufacturing processes related to:

  • Casting/Foundry
  • Powertrain (Engine or Transmission) machining/gaging/assembly
  • Mechanical Engineering applications
  • Materials, Chemical, Systems design, etc.
  • Electrical/Computer Engineering applications
  • Industrial Engineering applications (Work Measurement, Labor planning, Ergo, Simulations)
  • Lean Material Strategies (develop/implement material storage, movement, delivery systems)
  • Gear Engineering & Manufacturing
  • Prismatic Machining
  • Battery Cell/Module Assembly
  • Fuel Cell Technology & Assembly
  • Electric Motors / Electric Drive Unit Technology & Assembly

Start dates for this internship role are May & June of 2025.  

 

Compensation: 

The salary range for this role is $4,000 - $4,900 monthly, dependent upon class status and degree. 

GM will provide a one-time lump sum taxable stipend payment to eligible students selected for the 2025 Student Program.
