Job Description

Summary

TigerSwim Leads assist with preparation, execution, organization, and evaluation of each TigerSwim program, (including swimming lessons), while continuing the general duties of a TigerSwim Instructor.

Candidates must have previous experience as a TigerSwim Instructor prior to applying for the TigerSwim Lead position.

The TigerSwim Lead position requires exceptional leadership skills, organization skills, and takes pride in the quality of their work. TigerSwim Leads will also assist with the scheduling, supervising, training and evaluation of TigerSwim Instructors.  Leads must demonstrate the initiative to excel, attention to detail, and actively communicate with peers and supervisors. American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor certification is recommended but not required.

Essential Functions

  • Assist the Aquatic Coordinator in scheduling of TigerSwim Instructors.
  • Assist the Aquatic Coordinator in creating and assigning TigerSwim Instructor level assignments for year-round TigerSwim sessions.
  • Track pass and fail ratio levels for all TigerSwim participants.
  • Ensure TigerSwim Instructors arrive on time for their scheduled shifts.
  • Ensure TigerSwim Instructors successfully complete TigerSwim report cards 1 day prior to lessons ending.
  • Communicate effectively to all TigerSwim participants and respectfully handle any program questions, concerns, or complaints about the TigerSwim program.
  • Ensure substitutions arrive with a provided lesson plan from the initial assigned instructor.
  • Processing and Recording Parent Evaluations for the TigerSwim Program.
  • Ensure provided equipment is in good working condition, report any issues to the Aquatics Coordinator.
  • Responsible for turning on and off features in the Tiger Grotto and Diving Well before and after lessons.
  • Assists in the water, instructing group lessons, as needed.
  • Attend and assist with all staff meetings, trainings, and in-services.
  • Be readily available to instruct private lessons as assigned by the Aquatics Coordinator.
  • Participate in department training that emphasize proper implementation of health, safety, and environmental management systems.
  • Demonstrate initiative to create an excellent customer experience.

Anticipated Hiring Range

$13.50 per hour paid on a biweekly basis

Shift

Anticipated hours per week: 12.5

Hours vary depending on Fall, Spring, and Summer programming. Hours may include early mornings, late afternoon/evenings, and weekends.

Minimum Qualifications

To be eligible for a student title, an individual must be enrolled at the University of Missouri.  Enrollment in the summer session is not required as long as the student was enrolled in the Spring Semester and is pre-enrolled for the Fall semester.

Selection is contingent upon successful results of an Office for Civil Rights &Title IX and Office of Student Accountability & Support check, MU employment history check, and review by the office of the Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior experience in teaching group and private lessons with TigerSwim Program.
  • Experience in teaching swimming lessons.
  • Valid American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor Certification (WSI).
  • Valid American Red Cross First Aid/CPR/AED certification.
