STEM EdTech Internship

Internship Summary

Reporting to the Project Director, the intern will work with the project team on the timely accomplishment of varying development and research activities. Primary responsibilities will be for the development of a mobile serious game, Fantasy Sports Math League, to improve math skills among middle-school age youth.

This internship provides mentored work in education technology, STEM education, and serious game design. The internship is a remote position. This internship includes a small stipend based on experience and hours.

Approximate number of hours: based on student availability, minimum of 300 hours

Tasks & Responsibilities

  • Work on current or planned projects with an educational technology and math focus.
  • Conduct Experience Audit with recommendations on improving user experience
  • Conduct literature searches, summarize and present literature on specific topics (STEM education, game design, edtech commercialization, key features of competing programs)
    • Develop database of other math games, their features, commercialization strategies
  • Present current research or work they have done to internal staff
  • Participate in agency and project meetings
  • Develop Figma wireframes
  • Design and develop mini math games (concepts, objectives and/or technology)
  • Co-facilitate user experience focus groups and interviews
  • Support research and evaluation efforts
  • Participate in paper-writing process (both peer reviewed journal and popular media) with co-authorship opportunity
  • Support usability testing, beta-testing, and/or randomized controlled trial, and evaluation study

Specifications

  • Currently enrolled in a Master’s level program in education, game design or development, mathematics, instructional design, learning design and technology
  • Ability to prioritize multiple tasks and plan personal schedule.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to adapt to time line adjustments and reorganize work accordingly.
  • Interest in gaming, game design, or other creative field.
  • Experience with research preferred.
  • Excellent computer skills, specifically the use of Microsoft Office Suite, and Figma
  • Competent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills, including thorough knowledge of the English language.
  • Good organizational skills.
  • Responsible and able to follow through on tasks under general supervision.
