The State of New Hampshire, Department of Transportation, Bureau of Bridge Design, has a full-time vacancy for an Engineering Technician V.

SUMMARY: 

To perform engineering calculations and develop studies and plans associated with the design, construction, and maintenance of bridges and other highway structures for the Bureau of Bridge Design.
 

YOUR EXPERIENCE COUNTS : See Per 405.01.

18 Months of additional relevant experience = Associate's degree

36 Months of additional relevant experience = Bachelor's degree

54 Months of additional relevant experience = Master's degree


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

 

Education: Associate's degree from an accredited institute of higher education with a major study in engineering, landscape, architecture, forestry, horticulture, environmental studies, agronomy, geology, soil science or earth science. Each additional year of approved formal education may be substituted for one (1) year of required work experience.

 

Experience: Seven (7) years of engineering experience, two (2) years of which shall have been at a level equivalent to Engineering Technician IV. Each additional year of approved work experience may be substituted for one (1) year of required formal education.

 

License/Certification: Applicant must possess a valid driver’s license and/or access to transportation for statewide travel if required for performing engineering field work. The applicant’s Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) must meet the minimum standards as established by the hiring agency.

 

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: All accountabilities must be performed in accordance with State and Department rules and policies, including risk management, safety and environmental standards, regulations and administrative orders. 

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:
 

  • Operates a computer aided drafting (CAD/D) system and develops techniques to efficiently produce technical drawings necessary for the development of bridge projects while supervising other Engineering Technicians.

 

  • Calculates bridge geometry, bridge roadway profiles and alignments, and reinforcing layouts in order to draft plans for project development.

 

  • Performs technical services in the form of providing drawings, calculating and collecting data and cataloging information for inclusion in engineering studies, permit applications and contract plans.

 

  • Develops complete bridge projects of limited scope for the rehabilitation or replacement of bridges or other highway structures and directs other CAD/D operators on final plan development.

 

  • Computes quantities for the bridges, roadways and related structures, to provide information for project cost estimates and for bidding and construction purposes.

 

  • Checks fabricators shop drawings, performing necessary calculations to insure conformity with contract plans.

 

  • Advises and resolves problems of less experienced technical personnel in order to assist in the proper development of projects and to promote an understanding of bureau policies and state specifications.

 

  • Prepares estimates to be used for tracking project finances.
