Term Date: Note: Start and end dates flexible

Location: Brunswick, ME

Focus Area: Age Friendly, Community Outreach, Poverty, Public Health, Youth

Dedicated to intergenerational community participation, People Plus supports an engaged, healthy, and independent life for older adults, while joining others to build community for all ages. We offer numerous choices for fitness and wellness services, recreation and learning opportunities, education and outreach.

Through our programming, we seek to address the social, emotional, physical, intellectual, and spiritual needs of all our members, and to promote their independence.  We work to link older adults with younger people to enrich the lives of everyone.

The member at People Plus will spend much of their time supporting the Brunswick Area Teen Center Program (BATC.) Established in 2005, the BATC is a drop-in center where youth in grades 6-12 can hang out for free and access a variety of resources including a daily meal program. As of summer 2024, we have been working to greatly expand our program and offerings for 24/25 school year and are seeking an AmeriCorps member to support these efforts.

People Plus is looking for an AmeriCorps member to support the organization’s efforts to serve youth in the Brunswick community. The Brunswick Area Teen Center has recently relocated and is looking to expand its services to reach a great number of youth aged 11 to 18. The member will work to collect data on local health needs, network with community partners and improve the effectiveness of current nutrition and health access programming at People Plus. The member will be responsible for the following activities on a day-to-day basis:

  • Design and implement programming that encourages active healthy lifestyles.
  • Conduct outreach to establish and cultivate community partnerships to connect our youth with resources already available in the community.
  • Conduct a needs assessment of new youth at the Teen Center and use the results to guide the expansion of our program.
  • Assist with and work to increase the food security of those served by People Plus.
  • Aid in the recruitment, training, and management of volunteers for People Plus.
  • Support the day-to-day operations of the center with a focus on engaging and building connections with the youth that we serve.
