SUMMARY OF JOB RESPONSIBILITIES AND REQUIREMENTS

 

JOB TITLE: Intern - Network Services 

REQUISITION:  INF00CA

DEPARTMENT: Network Services – F&M Service Center

LOCATION: Kansas City, MO

PAY RANGE: $20.00 - $24.00/Hour

 

Full-Time Internship Position for Summer 2025

Scheduled Work Hours: Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. (Other hours as required)

Intern Description:

This position will help the Network team support the Corporate Network connectivity for Evergy. There will be opportunities to use products like SolarWinds Cisco Catalyst Center and Cisco Identity Services Engine.  Visits to Office buildings Service Centers and Energy Centers will be part of continuing support and ongoing project work. 

 

Job tasks include but not limited to:

  • Use various tools to apply network device configuration
  • Understand the IP network routing design for the Cisco fabrics and Internet connectivity
  • Apply standard implementation designs to LAN closets and equipment cabinets
  • Help users with connectivity issues on both the wired and wireless networks
  • Help identify opportunities to improve current processes
  • Look for opportunities to add improve static documentation of our network and assets

 

Education and Experience Requirements:

Candidates must be enrolled in a university or technical program focusing on technology or related field. Experience in configuration and maintenance of a network supporting connectivity to the Internet is a plus. 

Skills, Knowledge and Abilities Required:

  • Must be dependable, self-motivated, and detail-oriented and have excellent organizational and proofreading skills. 
  • Must possess the ability to work and communicate effectively with other company personnel. 
  • Proficiency in word processing, spreadsheets and databases preferred.
  • Familiar with Cisco products is a plus
  • Able to use protocols like SSH and Telnet to login and manage devices through a CLI
  • Interest in cable management and a clean work environment 
  • Ability to visualize configurations and build or update Visio drawings to match the current Evergy drawing standards

 

Working Conditions:

There will be a variety of diverse workplace opportunities.  There will be work from home opportunities as well as work from the office and will also be accompanied by work in a lab and warehouse areas used to manage and configure inventory before being implemented in production.  During installation processes site visits will be required at any of the various Evergy facilities.
