Production Engineer Internship

Job Description:

Toyota Material Handling's manufacturing facility includes processes for sheet metal cutting and fabrication, steel saw cutting, CNC machining, press brake and hydraulic press forming, manual and robotic MIG welding, resistance welding, powder coating, painting, assembly, and inspection as well as processes specific to our product including hydraulic cylinder and hose manufacturing.

Job specific responsibilities

  • TSDR Process Improvement (New Machines
    • Prepare a flexible machine to eliminate custom work for high volume TSDR options
      • Shearing or cutting rubber flor mat for cabin trucks 
      • Punching or drilling hole in dash panels (flexible part location)3
      • Adjustable welding jigs for fixture table (OHG Rood, drive in rack pillars, etc.)
  • Front Axle Plate Machining Rotator Redesign
    • Design and build a new mechanical system to permit rotation of machined front axle plates for secondary operation processing
      • Frame Machining
  • Flat Bar unloading improvements
    • Design and build a new system to allow for better ergonomics when unloading the outfeed conveyor at flat bar cutting
      • Flat bar cutting

Essential Position Duties:

  • Collect necessary information to be able to identify and recommend safety, quality, and productivity improvement ideas for manufacturing equipment and processes
  • Collaborate with Maintenance and Manufacturing Leadership to identify and recommend countermeasures to reduce equipment downtime
  • Collaborate with direct supervisor, Maintenance and Manufacturing Leadership to troubleshoot production problems with manufacturing equipment
  • Review proposals for new product models, identify manufacturing process change points, collaborate with direct supervisor to determine manufacturing equipment and process plan
  • Use of CAD to develop process layouts utilizing provided specific constraints and objectives
  • Develop drafts of specifications for outside vendors to quote work such as fixture design or plant utility layout changes
  • Use basic measuring tools and methods (scale, caliper, tape, etc.)
  • Execute improvement projects utilizing provided schedules, budgeting, and key performance indicators
  • Collect and present necessary information to be able to identify and recommend ways to reduce manufacturing environmental impact
  • Compile and present necessary information to identify current production capacity limiting manufacturing equipment and processes
  • Develop material/part flow diagrams to visualize process and department conveyance
  • Ability to work in a constant state of alertness and safe manner
  • Additional duties as assigned

Education & Experience:

  • Strong technical experience with troubleshooting capability and willingness to work hands-on.
  • Strong work ethic, intrinsically motivated, ability to organize work and multi-task.
  • Computer skills, including the ability to prepare thorough, concise reports and justifications.
  • Ability to work professionally with all levels of the organization.
  • Earning a Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Engineering or Engineering Technology. (mechanical/industrial/electrical).
