Research Intern
CORE JOB SUMMARY The Intern supports research and administrative activities for the assigned division by conducting laboratory experiments on assigned research projects and working closely with laboratory staff. Moreover, the incumbent operates with the goal of advancing his/her expertise through continued education, training, and research. CORE JOB FUNCTIONS 1. Understands and interprets research protocols and procedures. 2. Participates in the publication of significant results. 3. Maintains an overview of relevant research findings. 4. Ensures all research is undertaken according to good research practice. 5. Keeps abreast of current publications relative to methods, techniques, and developments within the area of research. 6. Operates and maintains laboratory equipment. 7. Performs calculations to complete research test results, collects data, and performs statistical analysis of laboratory results. 8. Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets. Assist with development of scientific scholarship products such as manuscripts, PowerPoint, etc. 2. Assist with basic data analysis 3. Engages with community stakeholders and coordinates recruitment activities. 4. Performs chart review/pre-screening activities for study participant eligibility and coordination of simple clinical research protocols. Maintains enrollment procedures according to the protocol. 5. Performs routine activities of clinical studies including data collection and maintenance, planning study timelines, schedules appointments and study visits, meeting scheduling, administering surveys and project evaluation. 6. Adheres to cultural competency guidelines; implements strategies to meet study participants' needs for language translation, health literacy, etc. 7. Performs moderate to complex research tests/ experiments and adapts procedures for quality improvement under supervision. 8. Assists in observing and informing the PI/supervisor of adverse events, including those reported by study participants. 9. Addresses adverse events per protocol, advocating for study participants and quality standards throughout the lifespan of the study.
