Investment Officer, Risk Mitigating Strategies
The Investment Officer II position is eligible for incentive compensation and has a maximum incentive opportunity of 10% of base salary.
The CalSTRS Investments Branch is seeking an experienced individual to work as an Investment Officer II on the Risk Mitigating Strategies team.
The Risk Mitigating Strategies (RMS) asset class was established in 2016, with an objective to invest in strategies that provide further diversification of CalSTRS overall investment portfolio, especially during equity market downturns. RMS includes long duration U.S. Treasuries, Trend Following, Global Macro, Systematic Risk Premia, and other strategies to be identified in the future.
Under the general direction of the Portfolio Manager, the Investment Officer II is responsible for assisting with the oversight of the Risk Mitigating Strategies (RMS) Portfolio, evaluating new strategies, monitoring the portfolio, and analyzing performance attribution. This position performs complex duties requiring a high degree of independence, qualitative and quantitative analysis, and discretionary judgment.
The ideal candidate will possess the following skills:
- Undergraduate or advanced degree in finance, economics, mathematics, and/or similar technical field
- Familiarity with Bloomberg, Excel, AlternativeSoft
- Experience in the institutional financial services industry
- Experience working with external stakeholders
- Knowledge of investment principles and trends across multi-asset classes
- Ability to perform quantitative and qualitative analysis of statistical measures
- Strong understanding of quantitative research process and methods to produce and interpret information
- Excellent written and oral communication skills, including presentations to a wide range of audiences
- Ability to work independently and exercise initiative and discretionary judgement
- Ability to establish and maintain positive and professional working relationships
- Ability to effectively analyze information to develop and present appropriate recommendations
- Ability to work effectively as an individual and as part of a team to support team, unit, and Investments Branch goals
- High attention to detail
Duties will be adjusted at the Investment Officer I level.
An incumbent who possesses a professional certification as a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) may receive a 5% monthly base pay differential.
Every 12 months, based on performance evaluation, employees may receive a 5% salary increase until they reach the maximum salary for the position.
