Position Title: Intramural Official

Organization: Division of Student Affairs

Department: Campus Recreation

Hourly Wage: $10.25

Average Hours/Week: 10, additional hours scheduled as needed

Supervisor: Campus Recreation Director

General Purpose:

The Official is a customer service position with responsibilities at Intramurals Sports events. The role of the Official is to supervise and officiate intramural games, while being responsible for enforcing rules for games, while being impartial to participants.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Officiate various intramural sports and event. 
  • Control each game by utilizing sport specific rules and knowledge to ensure proper administration of the rules and policies. 
  • Arrive at least five minutes prior to scheduled shift. 
  • Responsible for the set-up and tear down of the Intramural Sports events. 
  • Dress and appearance are consistent with CREC standards. 
  • Act in a professional manner by upholding CREC policy when involved in conflict management with patrons, students and staff. 
  • Act as the first contact in the resolution of protests and conflicts that may arise during game play. 
  • Ensure sportsmanlike conduct and provide written reports on all incidents and ejections witnessed. 
  • Sign off on each score sheet after each game worked 
  • Ensure playing area is always safe for competition. 
  • Ensure participants and spectators are safe, in their designated areas, and acting appropriately

Qualifications: 

  • Candidates who have previous experience in high school or college athletics, coaching, or officiating 
  • Candidates must display an eagerness to learn and work with others 
  • Customer service background preferred; able to interact in a positive and professional way with members and co-workers, exceeding the member's expectations 
  • Upbeat and positive attitude 
  • Punctuality and reliability are a must 
  • Must be a current IUI student

  • How to enforce rules/policies on field 
  • Able to efficiently run a game or event in the time frame given 
  • Work with participants to provide a successful outcome

Profile 3: Innovator

The IUI Student builds on experiences and disciplinary expertise to approach new situations and circumstances in original ways, is willing to take risks with ideas, and pose solutions. Innovators are original in their thoughts and ask others to view a situation or practice in a new way. Innovators are good decision makers, can create a plan to achieve their goals, and can carry out that plan to its completion.
