Director of Safety
SUMMARY: The Director of Safety (EHS) will lead the Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) department to ensure comprehensive compliance with federal, state, and local regulations across Ohio Gratings, Inc. and affiliated entities. This role will develop, implement, and oversee occupational health policies and procedures, emphasizing safety operations and regulatory adherence. Responsibilities include safety audits, training, accident investigations, and facilitating proactive safety initiatives.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local safety regulations, including EPA filing requirements, water and air testing, and manufacturing-related environmental regulations for Ohio and other states where we have a manufacturing presence.
Lead the Safety & EHS team in identifying issues, recommending improvements, and driving continuous enhancement of EHS performance.
Develop and implement safety policies and procedures in accordance with OSHA standards and other regulatory requirements.
Develop and implement Job Hazard Analysis (JHA) for all critical job functions to identify potential hazards and mitigate risks.
Ensure the company meets all quarterly and annual required safety training, including tracking attendance and completion rates.
Conduct safety training sessions, emergency response drills, and ensure proper use of safety equipment among personnel.
Perform regular safety audits and inspections of all work areas and job sites, documenting findings and ensuring corrective actions.
Lead accident investigations, including near misses, identify root causes, and implement measures to prevent recurrence.
Oversee OSHA recordkeeping and reporting, ensuring timely and accurate submission of required documentation.
Collaborate with management to plan and implement safety protocols and initiatives.
Prepare monthly and annual safety reports, presenting findings and recommendations to senior leadership.
Provide leadership in the development and delivery of EHS-related training programs for associates.
Assist HR in managing workers’ compensation claims, handling sensitive information with confidentiality and empathy.
Evaluate and participate in projects to mitigate risks and enhance overall safety performance.
Promote a culture of safety awareness and accountability across all levels of the organization.
Collaborate with management to develop, update, and implement safety policies and procedures.
Work to mainstream Safety into everyday tasks and top-of-mind awareness. (Safety is everyone’s job)
Must be a first responder to incidents and provide the necessary care to associates.
Review accident and incident reports and follow up with a sense of urgency.
Must be an active, hands-on, involved leader.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
EDUCATION, WORK EXPERIENCE, AND PROFICIENCIES:
- Bachelor’s degree in Health and Safety, Safety Engineering, Environmental Health, or related field required.
- Certification in Occupational Health and Safety Management preferred.
- Minimum of five years of occupational health and safety experience in an industrial setting, with at least three years in a supervisory or managerial role.
- Deep understanding of OSHA standards, EPA regulations, and other relevant federal, state, and local safety laws.
- Strong leadership and supervisory skills, with the ability to motivate and develop a team.
- Proficient in conducting data analysis, reporting statistics, and using MS Office Suite or related software.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to conduct effective training sessions.
- Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills, capable of managing multiple priorities.
- Ability to travel as necessary to conduct safety inspections and respond to safety incidents.
- Must be physically able to lift up to 45 pounds and participate in on-call duties across all shifts.
