An internship is one of the most important investments you can make in your future. In today’s competitive workforce you need to graduate with practical experience. The Fund for American Studies (TFAS) has been working with undergraduate students for more than 55 years to secure internships in Washington, D.C., through our Academic Internship Programs. 

Live in Washington, D.C., in furnished apartments on the campus of George Washington University. The centrally located residence hall is within walking distance of a Metro train stop, the National Mall, White House, grocery stores, and downtown living. Live with other program participants and gain a built-in social network. Roommate matching provided.

Learn from top professors and earn 3-6 academic credits from George Mason University. The courses are designed to complement your D.C. internship experience by offering a thorough examination of our free enterprise system and the economic way of thinking.

Intern in Washington, D.C. Gain real-world experience, grow your professional network and cultivate your workplace skills with a guided internship hiring process. Dedicated staff works with you to explore internship positions that fit your interests, skills and career goals. We work with a variety of types of organizations including:

Connect with program alumni and working professionals through a mentor program, networking roundtable dinners, and a series of career leadership small group discussions. Our program will give you behind-the-scenes exposure to some of the city’s most influential institutions and organizations. You will have a front row seat to a variety of exclusive briefings, learning about the mission of the institution and its policy priorities. Exclusive briefings may include:

  • U.S. Department of State
  • United States Capitol – Floor of the U.S. House of Representatives
  • The National Press Club
  • U.S. Institute of Peace
  • Ronald Reagan International Trade Center

Admissions + Scholarship Information
TFAS is a nonprofit with the goal of bringing the country's best and brightest students to D.C. for life-changing programs. 85% of students attending TFAS programs are on full or partial awards based on merit and/or need to help cover the cost of housing and tuition. There are over 75 full scholarships available for students who apply by the Priority Deadline.
