Undergraduate Research Assistant - Fuels Effects on IC Engine Combustion (9212888)

Undergraduate Research Assistant position for up to 12 hours per week, from Aug 21, 2024 to Dec 12, 2024. 

Qualifications: 

- Currently enrolled in the MMAE department at West Virginia University. 

- Good knowledge of IC engine (setup, control, emissions)

- Good knowledge of Matlab and LabVIEW

- Good knowledge of data acquisition devices

- Good communication skills (oral and in writing)

- Knowledge of Microsoft Office Products. 

Typical assigned duties for this position include: 

- Helping with the design of and participating in experiments in the Advanced Combustion Laboratory (ACL) and in the Plasma Combustion and Fluid imaging (PCFi) Laboratory, both run by Dr. Dumitrescu. Experimental platforms include internal combustion engines, high-pressure combustion vessels, and other power-generation devices or reactors. Experiments use conventional and alternative fuels (natural gas, hydrogen, ammonia, etc.) and ignition sources (e.g., thermal and non-thermal plasma).

- Ensuring compliance with all safety requirements associated with the research performed in the above laboratories.

- High quality and timely delivery of assigned tasks. 

- Searching scientific literature to select and adapt methods or procedures that are most appropriate for specific research goals

- Generating progress reports of conducted research.

In addition, you will be expected to: 

• Keep the labs clean and ready for research at any time.

• Follow the ACL and PCFi safety rules and guidelines.

• Attend the weekly group meetings

• Report your research progress to your supervisors.
