Job Description Summary
Coordinator of Sustainability Engagement. Performs a variety of administrative services; hosts sustainability programs, educates students, promotes the Miami Climate Action Plan, and organizes campus waste audits. Supports sustainability campus events. Facilitates procedures for compost, expanded recycling, waste collection and disposal. Promotes Miami’s sustainability accomplishments.
Job Description
Essential Duties:
Office of Sustainability
- Host sustainability programs in the Residence Halls via Resident Assistants (RA)
- Resource fair, with LLCs, etc.
- Table during new student orientation in the summer
- Educate students on the impact of the new geothermal project on N. Campus
- Promote the Miami 2040 Climate Action Plan
- Organize campus waste audits including dining facilities, residence halls (in partnership with EcoReps), and academic buildings
Armstrong Student Center
- Develop and facilitate a “shared resources” program for student organizations to reduce waste, in partnership with the Assistant Director for Student Engagement
- Support sustainable campus events by facilitating the correct procedures for compost, expanded recycling, and waste collection and disposal. This requires attending events in person to supervise accurate sorting
- Host programs with student organizations educating attendees on sustainability topics such as sustainable events, purchasing, volunteer opportunities, etc.
- Collaborate with SEAL ambassadors to promote sustainable programming
- Develop a sustainable purchasing guide for student organizations to promote responsible promotional materials, t-shirts, etc.
Office of ASPIRE
- Promote Miami’s sustainability accomplishments with State and Federal legislators
- Maintain regular office hours in the Lee and Rosemary Fisher Innovation College @ Elm to support sustainable entrepreneurship
Minimum Qualifications:
- Requires a Bachelor degree in sustainability, communications, education, or related field of study (OR)
- Associate’s degree in sustainability, communications, education, or related field of study plus a minimum of 4 years of verifiable full-time experience working in a sustainability role or related role (OR)
- A minimum of 8 years of verifiable full-time experience working in a sustainability role or related role
Required Knowledge Skills and Abilities:
- Knowledge of Sustainability operations
- Knowledge of computer and office applications
- Supervisory skills
