Printmaking Technician's Assistant

Printmaking Technician's Assistant

The purpose of this position is to assist the Printmaking Technician in maintaining the printmaking lab at Herron School of Art and Design, assist students as necessary, and assist supervisor with projects as needed.

This role includes a combination of the following:

  • Monitoring safety in lab spaces
  • Stocking and organizing supplies in each area
  • Maintaining cleanliness of the shop
  • Assist fellow students, faculty, and staff who use the shop to complete projects for classes
  • Assist Printmaking Technician with projects unique to improving the spaces

Qualifications:

  • Must be an IU Indianapolis student
  • Printmaking experience is helpful but not required.
  • Actively pays attention to details and follows Technician orders.
  • Capable of working independently when supervisor is not present.
  • Ability to assertively prompt shop users to comply with safety guidelines.

Learning outcomes:

  1. Communicator – In this position, students will learn how to be better communicators as they practice evaluating information, such as the inventory of the shop, that will be synthesized and communicated to the Printmaking Technician. Because students will develop a detailed sense of the equipment and supplies in the shop, this student learn to communicate their knowledge to faculty and fellow students who are not as familiar with the space, thus improving their relationships with such individuals. Also, individuals in this position will improve their active listening skills by interacting with and assisting other students in their job search.
  2. Problem Solver – Students will collaborate with peers and professionals in the printmaking lab to provide a more conducive environment for learning and art production. Students will gain analytical skills by evaluating current procedures and determining effectiveness through the use of data and research.
