Project Faulu Driver

Volunteer Title: Project Faulu Driver Status: Volunteer position, unpaid 

Hours: 3 hours a day, 2 days a week       Days: Mondays and Wednesdays OR Tuesdays and Thursdays, 4:00pm - 7:00pm  

Reports To: K-12 Programs Coordinator                        Commitment Period: September 30- December 12, 2024  

Location: 2130 Enterprise St SE Kentwood, MI  

Summary: 

Project Faulu volunteers work closely with the Program Coordinator and team of other volunteers to provide a supportive and engaging learning environment for students with a refugee background. Project Faulu is our K-8 program designed specifically for children with a refugee background, focusing on language and culture, creativity and inquiry, academic engagement, and positive social skills. Our goal is to provide students with opportunities to learn in a community of peers and volunteers. The Project Faulu Driver is responsible for transportation of students to and from home.  Pick up times will be around 4:00pm to ensure student arrival by 4:30pm. Volunteers must volunteer two days a week for one or desirably two semesters. Initial and ongoing training/check-ins are required.

Volunteer Duties  

Commit to volunteering consistently on a weekly basis as scheduled 

Can drive safely in many weather conditions 

Can interact compassionately with the refugee students and families 

Can focus with up to three young children in the backseat 

Demonstrate teamwork and integrity with staff, fellow volunteers, students, and their families 

Attending all required training courses 

Report issues of concern to K-12 Programs Coordinator 

 

Desired Requirements/Qualifications: 

Must be a Michigan Resident or have temporary residency in Michigan 

Be at least 21 years of age with a valid driver's license 

Provide a Driving Record from the Secretary of State 

Sign a state required liability waiver 

Pass mandatory background checks 

Ability to work with children ages K-8 within diverse populations
