Housed at IU Indianapolis, the Upward Bound program is designed to bridge the gap between high school and college. We provide students with tutoring, individualized resources, academic advising, college tours, cultural experiences, and more.

Upward Bound is one of eight TRIO programs across the nation. As stated by the Department of Education, “The Federal TRIO Programs (TRIO) are Federal outreach and student services programs designed to identify and provide services for individuals from disadvantaged backgrounds. TRIO includes eight programs targeted to serve and assist low-income individuals, first-generation college students, and individuals with disabilities to progress through the academic pipeline from middle school to post baccalaureate programs”

The key function of this role is to build relationships and mentor Upward Bound high school students. In addition to messaging and meeting with students frequently, the College Readiness Mentor will work with Upward Bound staff in a dynamic environment to meet student needs. Each day can look different, but constants would include outreach to students and mentoring sessions.

On Tuesday evenings, College Readiness Mentors will continue to build relationships with students and support their homework and study efforts. On the 2nd and 4th Tuesday of each month College Readiness Mentors will assist in leading Get Real Workshops.
