To qualify for this internship, you must be a continuing student enrolled or accepted for enrollment for the upcoming semester for the duration of the internship as a condition of employment (taking at least a "half time" course load). You will be required to provide documentation (transcript, enrollment certification, etc.) to support eligibility. Students may be employed throughout the academic year.

This is a developmental position in FHWA - the position is designed to provide interns with challenging assignments that will broaden their perspectives on issues facing the government and prepare them for future positions throughout the government.
The Civil Engineer Pathways Student Intern will work under the supervision of a California Division Office engineer. The program is designed to introduce the incumbent to the technical, administrative, and program management aspects of highway engineering in FHWA's California Division.
The selected intern will:
- Train and familiarize with Title 23 codes and regulations including administrative, auditing, and accounting procedures associated with the Traditional Federal Aid Program.
- Observe and participate in Caltrans and Local Agency meetings with Transportation Engineers.
- Develop communication skills working within the PDT unit and coordinating with other teams to collect information on Engineering issues/topics such as project inactive rates and status of Discretionary Grants.
The ideal candidate must be proficient in MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, have basic communication and writing skills, work well both independently and with the Engineering team, and be enthusiastic about learning.
