9488BR - Associate Scientist (Ecological Risk Assessor in Remediation Support)

Job Description :

SRNS is seeking to hire an Associate Scientist (Remediation Engineer) with a background in ecology or environmental science to support the Environmental Compliance and Area Completion Project (EC&ACP) mission of environmental cleanup of waste sites at DOE SRS. The Engineering Remediation Support group of scientists and engineers is looking for an entry level ecologist/environmental scientist/toxicologist to contribute to the planning and completion of human health and ecological risk assessments and interface with other site organizations on environmental and ecological issues. 

Position responsibilities include: 
• Assisting in the development of work plans, sampling and analysis plans, and remedial investigation reports, specifically in the determination of human health and ecological risk assessments using approved protocols
• Performing review and updates of risk information from various governmental and university sources
• Assisting in the coordination and oversight of environmental science related research conducted by other SRS organizations and universities.
• Coordination of work to support development of bioassessment reports for the integrator operable units (SRS watersheds) 
• Assist more senior technical personnel in performing related activities in more complex tasks.
• Working with other scientists and environmental engineers as a project team in conducting the characterization, data evaluation, problem identification, and alternative development to address contaminants of concern at waste sites at SRS.

Basic Education Qualifications :

Bachelor degree in applicable science or engineering discipline from an accredited college or university

 

Other Required Qualifications :

BS Degree in Ecology, Biology, or Environmental science required. 
Must be able to obtain and maintain a security clearance, if required.

Preferred Qualifications :

MS in Ecology, Environmental Science or Environmental toxicology preferred. 
Previous work/research experience with chemical and/or radionuclide contaminants in the environment. 
Strong communication and writing skills. 
Experience with ArcGIS, Microsoft products (Word/PowerPoint/Excel). 
Familiarity using databases. 
Knowledge of local wildlife.
