Environmental Education Coordinator

ENVIRONMENTAL EDUCATION COORDINATOR 

POSITION DESCRIPTION Charity Cares Inc. and Charity Cares Early Academy is a faith-based nonprofit organization dedicated to providing high-quality early childhood education and support services to under-resourced families. We prioritize creating a safe, nurturing, and inclusive environment for all children and their families.  

Our internships provide an opportunity for students to gain quality experiences in a community-based setting supporting children and families of diverse cultural and socio-economic backgrounds. Students will be actively engaged with Charity’s staff, children, and families through experiential, work-based learning.  

We are seeking a compassionate and creative Environmental Education Coordinator to join our team. The Environmental Education Coordinator will assist in in developing and implementing programs focused on environmental education and sustainability, engaging children in learning about nature and promoting eco-friendly practices. We provide an opportunity for intern students to implement professional skills and talents, exude positive energy, and gain holistic feedback. 

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES 

Assist in planning and conducting environmental educational activities and lessons for children. 

Develop interactive and age-appropriate curriculum materials focused on environmental topics. 

Lead outdoor explorations and nature walks, teaching children about local ecosystems and biodiversity. 

Help maintain and enhance outdoor learning spaces, including gardens, play spaces, and the Clubhouse. 

Promote eco-friendly practices within the program, including recycling and conservation initiatives.  

Organize and facilitate special events, such as Earth Day celebrations and environmental workshops. 

Collaborate with teachers and staff to integrate environmental education into the broader curriculum. 

Support the creation of educational resources, such as posters, pamphlets, and digital content. 

Ensure all activities align with our mission, values, and safety guidelines.  

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS Charity Cares Inc. and Charity Cares Early Academy operate within the confines of all governing agencies. For this position, students who most closely match the following criteria will be considered for employment: 

Currently enrolled in a relevant program including Environmental Science, Education, Biology or Ecology.  

Passionate about environmental conservation and education. 

Strong organizational communication skills. 

Ability to engage and inspire young children in learning about nature. 

Creative and able to develop innovative educational activities. 

Ability to work well in a team and independently. 

Compassionate, patient, and respectful towards children and families. 

Prior experience in environmental education or working with children is a plus. 

Complete the required professional development commitment of 24 hours annually. 

Possess the ability, competence, and knowledge to implement program regulations. 

POSITION SKILLS GAINED Participating students will increase their future employability through skills gained in our environment. Students will learn to manage health services in a preschool setting, provide early care and health education to young children, and assist with the organization of health records and resources in ways that promote a safe and healthy environment that supports child safety and well-being. Charity is a fast-paced environment that requires attentiveness and care. The skill most gained from this learning experience is direct support to young children and their families. Additional skills include:
