Protect Democracy Internship - Wisconsin

As our country faces another critical presidential election this fall, young people are feeling so many different ways — from anger to fear to hope to disillusionment.

Our Wisconsin intern cohort will work together to ensure that young people in their communities are aware of what is at stake this November and equipped with the tools to participate in the election.

Our rights, and the rights of our friends and neighbors are on the line. We have seen with Project 2025 that deeply important issues hang in the balance including:

  • Women’s rights to their bodily autonomy
  • The rights of LGBTQIA folks, even the potential criminalization of gender nonconformity
  • The environment and the future of our planet
  • Gun regulation and safety
  • The erosion of American democracy including the potential removal of the critical checks and balances that make the U.S. a democracy

If you feel that we can’t sit by and watch this happen, we highly encourage you to apply! We welcome and encourage applications from students of all academic backgrounds and experiences to join our team in driving voter engagement and participation.

Interns will learn organizing skills and about the issues on the ballot this fall, educate their peers on the issues, help students register to vote, and ensure members of their communities have the information they need to access their ballots.

Responsibilities:

You’ll be working closely with our team as well as state-based organizations. Your work could include:

  • Conducting social media and online outreach to educate students on the issues that will be affected by the election this fall
  • Building a network with potential partner organizations to educate and engage students in the upcoming election
  • Collaborating with partners to register students to vote
  • Working with state based organizations to engage folks in the upcoming election
  • Working at least 8-10 hours/ week this fall.

To Apply:

We have limited paid positions as well as unpaid positions available. In the case of unpaid positions we can support students in obtaining school credit.

We are currently accepting applications on a rolling basis, and applicants are encouraged to apply as soon as possible with a deadline of Sunday August 25.  Public Citizen is an equal opportunity employer. Women, people of color and LBGTQIA candidates are strongly encouraged to apply.
