Field Operations Intern
Role and Responsibilities
Peterson Farms is a family-operated row crop production farm based out of Loretto, KY. As a Field Operations Intern, you can expect to gain an understanding of how we utilize equipment and technology to produce high yields, all the while maintaining proper stewardship of the land that we farm. This is a very hands-on, operationally focused internship where, after being properly trained, interns will be tasked with operating equipment on their own. Interns will have a wide array of duties, including but not limited to:
- Learning how to operate various types of state-of-the-art farm machinery
- Learning how to utilize on-board computing systems
- Repairing and maintaining equipment and operating facilities
- Assisting in the movement/transport of necessary equipment between fields
- Various other on-farm duties as assigned
Through an internship at Peterson Farms, interns will gain real-world experience that will be invaluable for future career endeavors, whether they be on-farm or on the retail side of agriculture.
Qualifications and Education Requirements
High School diploma or equivalent is required. Preferred candidates would be a junior or senior pursuing a degree in Agronomy, Ag Business, Ag Economics, Ag Engineering, Crop Science or other related fields, but it is not required.
Preferred Skills
No previous experience is required, though preferred candidates would have a basic knowledge of machinery operation or prior internships/on-farm experience. Good communication skills are a must. Most importantly, candidates need to have a drive to learn!
Internship Period
Summer internships usually begin in late April or early May and last until mid-August. Peterson Farms is open to the possibility of extending the internship to encompass the fall semester.
