Afterschool Behavioral Specialist- $20/hr Flexible Hours

DESCRIPTION OF BASIC RESPONSIBILITIES: 

Under general supervision, The Behavioral Specialists help facilitate the agency’s objectives by providing direct care and person-centered support to the youth in our programs. As an integral part of the behavior support team, the Behavior Specialist effects positive behavioral change in youth by providing evidence-based interventions to youth and families, collaborating with other professionals, and complying with Federal, State, County and School policies, regulations and/or procedures.


 

SUPERVISOR: Program Leads


 

MAJOR DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES 

  • Provide direct behavioral intervention/modification for children and youth that decreases engagement in disruptive, harmful, or maladaptive behaviors and increases engagement in positive replacement behaviors
  •  Engage with Youth in a positive manner
  • Assists with designing, implementing, monitoring, and adjusting Program Skills for groups. 
  • Adhering to each Youth Behavior Support Plans (BSP) and or Crisis Plan (CP) that are compliant with Federal, State, and Local law/guidelines. 
  • Recognizes and utilizes "teachable moments" and modeling in helping youth during their normal routine.
  • Participate in training as requested
  • Completes written reports as requested by the Program Leads, Director of Community Integration, COO, and CEO that are in compliance with Federal, State, and Local Agencies. 
  • Participates in family and youth outreach opportunities, including but not limited to Family Night
  • Maintains appropriate documentations for each youth. This includes but not limited to: daily documentation, Incident Reports, HI/SI Reports, Accident reports, etc.
  • Maintains current knowledge of Federal, State, and Local laws and regulations and abides by said laws and regulations with emphasis on persons with disabilities, child welfare, mental health, confidentiality, and student and parent rights. 
  • Daily communication with your team in regard to youth behaviors and goals.
  • Maintain daily schedule for After School Staff Schedule: 
    • 1-2pm 
      •  Monday: Finishing up notes from the previous week
      • Tuesday: Cleaning/Organizing
      •  Wednesday: Starting notes for the current week
      • Thursday: Training
      • Friday: Meeting/Planning for the following week
    • 2-3pm: Prep for Transports
    • 3-6:45pm: Programming
    • 6:45-8pm: Transport
  • Adhere to HIPPA guidelines and maintain respect and confidentiality for all children and families 
  • Any additional tasks given by Supervisor to strengthen our program


 

 KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES & OTHER CHARACTERISTICS: Knowledge of: 

  • Environmental and social/emotional issues that impact Youth success. 

Ability to:

  • Engage in relationship-building strategies with at-risk youth and parents to identify strategies to achieve long term goals. 
  • Maintain a high level of professionalism during work hours.
  • Communicate effectively with coworkers and supervisors.
  • Build positive relationships and rapport.
  • Engage with youth in various outings, community resource fairs/job fairs and community. 
  • Maintain confidentiality of all youth and staff in the program 
  • Active engagement with each client in the assigned program.
  • Create and maintain a clean environment.
  • Possesses physical and emotional health necessary for effective job performance 
    • Independently lift 40 pounds
    • Capable of transferring and positioning students
    • Work with physically aggressive students

Other Characteristics: 

  • Willingness to work in nontraditional settings with youth who may require additional individualized support to be successful.
  • Display and maintain an appropriate level of professionalism when conducting work for the agency. 


 

 EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

  • 6+ Months working with youth preferred not required
  • Pass Caregiver Background Check
  • Possess a Valid WI Driver’s License
  • Possess Valid Automotive Insurance
