Youth Mentor
The Gem State Public Health AmeriCorps program partners community members with non-profits across the state in paid volunteer positions called AmeriCorps positions. These positions offer community members the opportunity to receive support while volunteering with their favorite non-profit. The opportunity is offered each year from September 1st to August 31st every year. This program focuses on mental health and suicide intervention and prevention services.
Position Description
Responsibilities include aiding in achieving several health-related program goals, provide enrichment classes, tutoring, and supervised learning after school, or during school hours when hybrid learning is in place; accompany high-risk youth on service projects in the community; chaperone safe camp; sober weekend activities for local youth. Provide youth mentorship and connect youth with community resources that will lead to lower drug use; alcohol problems, stronger academic achievement, graduation rates, and college; career readiness. Will avoid prohibited activities. Will not supplement, duplicate, or displace staff.
Requirements
Must be 18 years or older
Must be a US Citizen or Lawful Permanent Resident
Pass a background check
Complete 900 hours
Participate in required training and service events
Avoid Prohibited Activities
Does not duplicate/displace staff
Benefits
Living allowance of $8682.85/year before taxes distributed biweekly
Scholarship of $3,697.50
