The Indiana University School of Medicine’s Center for Inclusive Excellence (CIE) is looking for a student worker to support our work with planning, supporting, organizing, preparing, and assisting with other logistical tasks surrounding diversity, equity, inclusion, and justice (DEIJ) programs, services and events for the school. 

This part time (15-20 hours a week) student position will provide you with hands-on experience in the field of DEIJ and strategic organizational development.

CIE programs, services and events require thoughtful planning, communication and organizing to faculty, learners, and staff across nine campuses.

40% - Working with CIE staff to assist with the planning, organizing, and preparing of programs and events for the office. Occasional implementation of smaller projects and/or initiatives could be required.

20% - Input data into systems that accompany programmatic efforts such as events management system, marketing cloud, Qualtrics, etc., while checking for accuracy and completeness. Also establishes templates for repeat communications and office management (i.e team meetings, SharePoint site, etc.,)

20% - Support CIE staff with administrative duties such as maintaining record keeping systems, reviewing content, assisting with scheduling/calendaring, assuring deadlines are met, and administrative tasks as necessary

10% - Audit and maintain updated content on the website, assist with departmental newsletter content

10% - Assists with correspondence, planning and support for IUSM Cultural Affinity Student Interest Groups

Examples of Projects could include (but are not limited to):

  • Supporting logistics for CIE events such as our annual LGBTQ+ Healthcare Conference, social mixers, lectures and more!
  • Establish repository of resources for underrepresented students in medicine (URiM) for statewide resources and make it accessible for prospective and current learners

Required

  • Possess at least a sophomore status at IUPUI
  • Have and maintain a cumulative GPA of 2.5 of greater
  • Must be reliable and able to manage time across multiple projects
  • Must be able to work independently/autonomously and also a collaborative team member
  • Demonstrates creativity and critical thinking
  • Strong organization, problem solving and writing/composition skills
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office (including but not limited to: Outlook, Excel and SharePoint)

Nice to Have

  • Familiarity with Salesforce Marketing Cloud—or willingness to learn
  • Experience working in DEIJ or related areas (volunteer work included)
  • Collaborative spirit
  • Availability on weekends and evenings for day-of event support

As a student, that means you’ll be working no more than 15 – 20 hours a week during the academic year. Individuals who are available to work over the summer are preferred. We are currently working hybrid. The first month will be 100% in-person during onboarding at which the team will discuss hybrid as an option based on performance and office needs. Note: No more than 20% of your hours will be eligible for a work-from-home arrangement.

 

What you will Learn:

Critical and Creative Thinking – Students will learn how to enhance the application of their critical and creative thinking skills to develop marketing and communication assets that achieve specific goals (such as event registration, program applicant enrollment numbers, general awareness and more). Students will learn how to use the power of storytelling to write engaging blogs and learn from professional communicators and editors.

 

Teamwork and Problem Solving – Students will learn to collaborate more effectively with others by participating on team projects in CIE. They will learn how to stay organized and manage their time effectively by balancing multiple marketing and communication projects simultaneously.
