Marketing and Communications Assistant

The Indiana University School of Medicine’s Center for Inclusive Excellence (CIE) is seeking a responsible, open-minded, motivated, and dynamic Marketing and Communications Assistant who is excited to join a culture of inclusive excellence. 

This hybrid part-time (15-20 hours a week) student position will provide you with hands-on experience in the field of DEIJ and strategic organizational development, focusing on communications and marketing.

CIE programs, services and events require thoughtful planning, communication and organizing to faculty, learners, and staff across nine campuses.

40% -  Assist in the preparation and distribution of materials for various projects and events. Compile and maintain accurate contact lists for event invitations and communications. Research and identify relevant local events that support the CIE mission.

25% - Assist in building the Inclusion in Focus newsletter and creating it in Salesforce.

25% - Audit and maintain updated content on the website and ensure that marketing materials align with brand guidelines.

10% - Other duties as required. Duties will evolve over the year the possibility of increasing responsibility and opportunity for independent projects.

Required

  • Must have a current award for work study for AY 2024-25 
  • Possess at least a sophomore status at IUI
  • Have and maintain a cumulative GPA of 2.5 of greater
  • Must be reliable and able to manage time across multiple projects
  • Must be able to work independently/autonomously and also a collaborative team member
  • Experience using Canva or Adobe Creative Suite software products
  • Demonstrates creativity and critical thinking
  • Strong organization, problem solving and writing/composition skills
  • Excellent proofreading and editing skills
  • Ability to follow and enforce brand guidelines
  • Experience in or willingness to learn digital marketing tools
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office (including but not limited to: Outlook, Excel and SharePoint)

Nice to Have

  • Coursework in communications, marketing, graphic design, or journalism
  • Proficiency in Canva or Adobe Creative Suite software products
  • Familiarity with Salesforce Marketing Cloud—or willingness to learn
  • Experience working in DEIJ or related areas (volunteer work included)
  • Experience in marketing or communications for a business, nonprofit, community or student organization (can be as an intern, volunteer, or employee)
  • Collaborative spirit

As a student, that means you’ll be working no more than 15 – 20 hours a week during the academic year. We are currently working hybrid. The first month will be 100% in-person during onboarding at which the team will discuss hybrid as an option based on performance and office needs. 

Note: No more than 20% of your hours will be eligible for a work-from-home arrangement.

 

What you will learn:

Critical and Creative Thinking – Students will learn how to enhance the application of their critical and creative thinking skills to develop marketing and communication assets that achieve specific goals (such as event registration, program applicant enrollment numbers, general awareness and more). Students will learn how to use the power of storytelling to write engaging blogs and learn from professional communicators and editors.

 

Teamwork and Problem Solving – Students will learn to collaborate more effectively with others by participating on team projects in CIE. They will learn how to stay organized and manage their time effectively by balancing multiple marketing and communication projects simultaneously.
