Course Development Intern
The course development intern will be responsible for building courses in our platform, making large-scale edits, researching replacement sources, and checking licensing for accuracy in a fast-paced work environment with academic professionals. Reformatting text, searching for educational content, creating spreadsheets, HTML and LaTex adjustments, and adding accessibility features are also part of this role. The intern in this position needs to enjoy working with different kinds of people in different kinds of tasks and be able to adapt to new situations. Think of this as the intersection between instructional design and project management in higher ed. We need a detail-oriented intern we can trust to make good decisions independently.
Lumen is currently building courses that center equity and inclusivity in our design process. Our goal is to eliminate race and income as predictors of success in gateway college courses.
INTERN WILL LEARN AND BE EXPOSED TO:
- Real world knowledge of Open Educational Resources (OER) and their adoption
- Hands-on strategizing and planning
- New technology, platforms, and coding languages
- Explore career opportunities in education, technology, and start-up businesses
- Network and find mentors by building professional relationships you can build on in the future
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Support the course development team by contributing to projects
- Input and edit course content in our platform
- Find possible resources and check licensing on new materials our customers will get excited about
- Create course supplements like PowerPoint presentations and quick reference guides
- Assist in brainstorming and course structure planning
- Participate in team and company meetings, if desired
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must be motivated, positive, organized, and possess good communication skills
- Able to learn new technology quickly and use it efficiently
- Loves problem-solving, putting in hard work to create change, and finding humor in the mundane
- Excited to work for a start-up where the ability to think on your feet and make immediate u-turns is required
- Interested in the education sector, specifically education technology, or simply helping your peers save money!
- Pluses: Coding experience, HTML, WordPress, tech savvy, subject specific background/interest
SCHEDULE and COMPENSATION:
- 5-30 hours per week around intern‘s schedule
- 3-month duration with possibility of extension if you become indispensable to our team
- $16 per hour
- Super flexible
