Business Data Analyst Intern

SITUATION OVERVIEW:

TJC, L.P. (formerly known as “The Jordan Company”) is seeking a Business Data Analyst Intern for its Operations Management Group (OMG) who will support value creation at the firm’s portfolio companies.   This individual will be a results-oriented, data and analytics-driven problem solver; strong in collaboration but able to work independently in ambiguous situations.

The Operations Management Group (OMG) works with, and adds value to, portfolio companies by assisting with growth, strategy, organization, human resources, cost reduction initiatives, market expansion and acquisitions. OMG is based in Chicago.

POSITION:

The Business Data Analyst Intern will partner with others in OMG to drive monetizable value creation by providing deep analytical rigor to evaluate data for insights and opportunities, as well as building tools and models for use by OMG and portfolio company management teams. With data as a foundation, the Business Data Analyst Intern will help OMG capture value and produce material financial results in portfolio companies through initiatives primarily targeting growth (Strategic Pricing, Salesforce Effectiveness, etc.) and cost reductions (Supply chain, Logistics, Lean, etc.). This person will also perform research and analysis to support new acquisitions and capital investments.

The Business Data Analyst Intern will be expected to:

  • Support delivery of major EBITDA and cashflow improvements as a team member on OMG projects.
  • Harness and interpret available data from disparate sources to identify value creation opportunities; Implement data collection systems and strategies when necessary; Build data tools to provide portfolio company management teams and OMG with key insights that can drive actionable results.
  • Provide modeling support and analytical rigor to OMG value creation projects related to business growth, pricing, supply chain, logistics, lean, information technology, human resources, and working capital.
  • Develop metrics and scorecards that track, analyze, and validate operational performance; integrating them into corporate reporting structures and translating operational results into EBITDA and cashflow improvements.
  • Analyze and conduct research with, and on behalf of, the OMG team.

QUALIFICATIONS:

The ideal candidate will possess expert level capabilities in excel modeling and more advanced business analytics tools. This person will be able to effectively collaborate and communicate with others - translating complex data into easy to understand business insights. The Business Data Analyst Intern will be naturally curious and resourceful – with the ability to autonomously find novel solutions via analysis or research while operating in sometimes ambiguous situations.

Specific skills and required experience include:

  • Digital mastery with demonstrated ability to consume, manipulate, visualize, derive insights, and make decisions from disparate sources of large amounts of data using tools including Python, Excel, BI, SQL, R, and Databricks. Familiarity with LLM’s and API design a plus. 
  • Current student with superior academic performance from a top-tier educational institution, which includes completion of rigorous coursework in data analytics, finance, accounting, and other business-related topics.
