Student Trainee (Budget) - OIG

Summary

The Office of Inspector General is an independent office within the EPA that helps the agency protect the environment in a more efficient & cost effective manner. We perform audits, evaluations, & investigations of the EPA to promote economy, efficiency, and to prevent and detect fraud, waste and abuse. We strive to provide solutions to problems that ultimately result in making America a cleaner and healthier place.

 

Duties

This position offers the opportunity to work in a maximum telework capacity as authorized by the agency.

The EPA OIG is seeking seeking student interns under the Pathways Summer Internship Program.  Internship are provided for students with a desire to work in the Office of the Inspector General and assignments are designed to complement the complement the interns educational pursuits while meeting the expressed needs of the agency. Positions are available in the following offices located in Washington, DC.

  • Office of Management Support

Responsibilities

  • Perform budget execution and formulation support duties within assigned organizations or programs.
  • Certify the availability of funds as to the correct purpose, time, and amount.
  • Participate in reviews, edits, and consolidations of the annual and multi-year budget estimates for assigned organizations or programs into a single budget request.
  • Verify relative costs and benefits of alternative program plans.
  • Identify and analyze basic trends in the receipt, obligation, or expenditure of funds for organizations, program segments, activities, and/or services which are relatively stable from one year to the next and throughout the fiscal year.
  • Analyze and evaluate the effect of budgetary changes and participate in the development of recommendations for budgetary actions to meet program obligations.

     

Ideal candidates for these internships are individuals pursuing undergraduate or graduate degree programs in business administration or management, communications, statistics or mathematics, accounting, compliance, information technology, and human resources.

  • GS-0599 Accounting 

Candidates will be considered on the basis of the applicability of their education to specific EPA OIG assignments.
