EL/BILINGUAL TEACHER

 

POSITION SUMMARY INFORMATION:  Essential Duties and Requirement Details

Position Summary: The Bilingual or ELL Teacher provides direct classroom instruction to Bilingual students, collaborates with teachers, and provides guidance to bilingual teaching assistants.

 

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

  • Acts as an English Language Learner (ELL) Teacher
  • Engages teachers in intensive ELL instruction
  • Promotes a school-based professional community; serving as a resource to classroom teachers with ELL students
  • Possesses the ability to plan, implement and evaluate standards-based instructional programs and lessons. 
  • Promotes a positive and collaborative culture within the school
  • Collaborates with staff, administration, district and lead partner on implementation of the Illinois Learning Standards (ILS)
  • Demonstrates knowledge of pedagogy, school improvement planning, and knows how to collect and utilize data to drive instruction.
  • Follows all expectations required of teachers according on the RIEA Contract Agreement and RIMSD Board Policies      

 

Required Education:

  • Must possess Illinois Educator License
  • Successful completion of a language examination in the non-English language to be taught.

 

Certifications, Licenses:

 

Illinois Secondary Teaching Certificate with appropriate endorsement

 

Required Experience/Qualifications:

  • Bilingual clinical experience totaling 100 clock hours or three months of teaching experience in bilingual programs
  • Participate with other classroom teachers to develop and implement instructional program and curriculum 
  • Ability to function effectively as a member of the school staff

 

Required Knowledge, Skills, and/or Abilities:

 Knowledge of and ability to speak, read, and write in a non-English language  

 

Physical Demands:  The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.  Sitting & standing most of the day.  Lifting no more than 25 pounds.  Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
