Position Title: DEAP Program Specialist

Department/Office: DUE/Diversity Enrichment & Achievement Program (DEAP)

Hourly Wage: $12/hour                   

Average Hours/Week: 12-15 hours

Number of Openings: 2                   

Work-study required? Yes

Position Duration: Fall 2024 - Spring 2025

 

Office Overview:

DEAP is a racially and culturally diverse student success program open to all IUI undergraduate students. Both fun and engaging, the DEAP community has a family-like approach towards providing students with holistic support. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

The students hired for this role must be proficient in both administrative tasks and social media engagement.

·        Monitor and track student participation using Excel database. This involves tracking participation in student workshops, monthly meetings, special programs, and student organization events. 

·        Update and maintain the student lounge bulletin boards and informational tables

·        Create promotional materials and promotional strategies for DEAP events

·        Update DEAP’s website, social media, online platforms, and public calendar

  • Consistently engage with DEAP’s social media platforms 

·        Attend and assist with large events (Pinning Ceremony, Family Reunion, Power Hours, End of Year Celebration, etc.)

·        Attend DEAP staff meetings 

·        Assist the directors and coordinators with various program-related tasks

·        Assist with other duties as assigned based on office need and current projects

Equipment and Programs Used Daily:

Desktop computer; Phone; Microsoft office – Excel, Teams, and Outlook; Canvas; Kuali Time

Experience Gained in this Role / Learning Outcomes:

·        Communicator – Students will learn to become better communicators by building relationships with peers and fellow students. Individuals in this position will work closely with staff regarding office operations and provide regular assessments and progress updates

·        Problem Solver – Students will develop leadership skills as well as become familiar in the functions of planning and organization. This position will teach students how to make decisions quickly through the use of problem solving and collaborating with peers.

·        Innovator – Students will develop an ability to think creatively and work autonomously to create and design marketing materials and outreach communications.

Qualifications:

-      All majors welcomed, IUI Student, DEAP Participant

-     Federal Work-Study Only (ask advisor or financial aid rep if unsure whether you are under the Federal Work-Study program)

-      Minimum of 2.5 GPA

-      Basic understanding of Microsoft office. Proficiency in Excel, Word, and Outlook is preferred.

-  Experience and/or willingness to support student success 

-      Experience and/or willingness to learn various technology systems to support office functions.

Physical Demands:

Sitting at front desk in front of computer during majority of work days; standing during attended events when necessary, helping to transport light items to and from locations for events.

Work Environment:

The DEAP Office is a student-focused space. The DEAP Specialist will need to be prepared to work in moments with few to no student interactions as well as highly interactive moments in and outside of the office.
