Introductory Biology Lab Teaching Assistant

Job description: 

The Biology Department seeks experienced Biology students to be Teaching Assistants (TA) in Introductory Biology Lab for the Fall 2024 semester. This is a student worker position that pays $15.00/hr and requires 3 hrs of work per week during one of the Intro Bio Lab sections: 

Monday – 1:10 - 4:10 pm

Tuesday – 1:10 - 4:10 pm

Thursday – 8:40 - 11:40 am

Thursday – 1:10 - 4:10 pm

 

Responsibilities:

The Lab TA attends every lab meeting (for one lab section a week) and assists the lab professor in guiding students through lab activities. This may include helping students use lab equipment (like pipettes, colorimeters, LoggerPro software) and Excel for calculations and graphing, and answering student questions as they go through various lab activities. Your lab professor may ask to meet shortly before lab meetings to review the day’s activity, but aside from that, no work would be required outside of lab time and labs sometimes end early.  Labs meet every week of the semester, but there will be a couple weeks off.

 

Qualifications:

  • Junior or senior status preferred, but academically strong sophomores will be considered
  • Biology or Biochemistry major preferred, but minors or students who have taken many biology courses will be considered (must have passed BIOL 167).
  • Outgoing and friendly
  • Takes initiative and anticipates needs during lab session
  • Dependable and punctual
  • Strict adherence to safety protocols
