Research Scientist I (Temporary) (JR-0000972)

Responsibilities

Health Research, Inc. is seeking a part time, temporary, Research Scientist I to work within the Wadsworth Center.  This position will work 24 hours/week.  The incumbent will be responsible for performing laboratory experiments related to a NIH-funded project to understand and target the persisters of Mycobacterium tuberculosis. The experiments will be performed in mycobacteria deploying techniques of molecular genetics, biochemistry, and cell biology. Specifically, the incumbent will be constructing reporter strains of M. tuberculosis to visualize bacilli with hibernating ribosomes. The incumbent will then purify ribosomes from recombinant strains and analyze for the presence of hibernating ribosomes. The incumbent will analyze the results and perform analysis with guidance from the with Principal Investigator.


This position is expected to last until February 28, 2025.

This position will be part of a dynamic team serving the Wadsworth Center’s mission in the New York State Department of Health’s efforts to protect and promote the health of New York’s citizens. Come be a part of Science in the Pursuit of Health.

 

Minimum Qualifications 

Bachelor's degree in Biology, Microbiology, Molecular Biology or related field and two years of research experience; OR a Master’s degree in that field and one year of research experience.

 

Preferred Qualifications

A PhD in biological sciences. Experience in molecular biology and mycobacteriology. Trained in handling infectious organisms and BSL3 certified. Approved animal training and, specifically to work in a ABSL3 facility. Experience and skills in data analysis, scientific writing and presentation.

 

Conditions of Employment

Temporary, part time, grant funded position expected to last through 2/28/2025. Compliance with funding requirements such as time and effort reporting, grant deliverables, and contract deliverables, is required.

Valid and unrestricted authorization to work in the U.S. is required. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.

Travel, up to 10% of the time, will be required.

This position requires that the incumbent will report to the official work location and live within commuting distance to the official work location. Telecommuting will not be available.

Exposure to potentially hazardous substances may be involved with this position. Therefore, the incumbent in this position may be required to wear personal protective clothing and equipment including but not limited to a gloves and a lab coat.
