The Editing Department of the National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC) is seeking a highly motivated individual for an editorial internship. We are looking for a team member who would enjoy working for an organization that strives daily to support the public good and make a difference. This position requires working at least one day a week from our Kansas City, Missouri office. 

This internship allows individuals to participate in areas of the NAIC’s publication production process. It is ideal for individuals seeking a career in English, journalism, or communications.

 

Responsibilities include:

  • Reviewing, proofreading, and editing NAIC written work product within the specified deadline to ensure: 1) grammar, spelling, syntax, and punctuation are used correctly; and 2) work product adheres to the NAIC House Style Guide and the Associated Press Stylebook.
  • Verifying facts, dates, and statistics using standard reference sources.
  • Maintaining the editing production chart of editing projects in MS Excel.
  • Reviewing the Proceedings to confirm attachments, content lists, page numbers, and other QA and formatting standards are met.

 

Skills and abilities:

  • Excellent writing and proofreading skills.
  • Experience working with MS Word, MS Excel, and Adobe Acrobat.
  • Familiarity with Associated Press style.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple tasks to meet deadlines.
  • Ability to work effectively on a team or work independently.

 

Requirements: 

The editorial internship is a hybrid position requiring a commitment of 20–25 hours per week between the business hours of 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. CT and working in the office once a week.

 

Compensation: $15 per hour
