Here at Michael Lynn Animation Studio we strive to cater to each intern's strengths and interests, ensuring that they achieve their individual learning objectives. The primary focus of this internship is to help students develop their abilities in digital illustration. As such, all tasks assigned will relate to this area of study.
Preferred Job Qualifications:
While the start and end dates of the internship are flexible, it is specifically intended for the Winter/Spring 2024-25 semester.
- Both technical and artistic expertise to push the creative envelope to new heights while adhering to numerous quality and brand guidelines.
- A portfolio showcasing illustration work and demonstrating technical and creative abilities.
- Access to WACOM or similar tablet for creating digital assets.
- Some knowledge of digital drawing and painting fundamentals.
- Some knowledge in anatomy, shape design, perspective, drawing, composition and color theory.
- Experience with Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop or other Vector and Bitmap software.
- Understanding of composition principles.
- Self-motivation.
- Good communication skills.
- Able to work creatively as part of a large or small group.
- Understanding of animation principles and how they relate to the creation of digital puppets and assets.
Responsibilities:
During the internship, interns will be responsible for working on 2-4 projects. The number of assignments given will be determined based on the complexity of the projects, the intern's proficiency, and the credit hours required. On these projects students should expect to be responsible for the following:
- Design and develop characters, and creatures and produce 2D stylized assets.
- Assist designers, animators and other artists when building animation projects.
- Work closely with animators to ensure completion of characters and assets at the desired quality and style.
- Actively Participate in art discussions, direction, critiques and reviews.
- Budget time efficiently and with a good feel for how long a task will take.
- Troubleshoots artistic issues and ask for help when necessary.
- Follow style guides to ensure assets and characters meet project requirements
- Draw, create and conceptualize storyboards based on scripts from our team and clients.
- Collaborate closely on existing and future projects with numerous team members.
- Communicate clearly and in a timely manner with all members of the team.
- Properly and accurately gauge timelines required for completion of work.
- Stay highly organized and diligent, able to learn new tasks.
