Human Resources Intern

TruNorth Federal Credit Union in Ishpeming, MI is seeking a Human Resources Intern. TruNorth Federal Credit Union is a $215 million credit union with branch locations in Marquette and Ishpeming and over 40 employees. This position reports to the Vice President-Finance, Operations & Human Resources and working closely with the President/CEO to support the credit union in human resource activities ensuring compliance with all State and Federal regulations. The Human Resources Intern is responsible for assisting with payroll and benefits administration, recruiting and onboarding, employee performance evaluation, training and development coordinator, and review of human resources related policies.

The position will be expected to work out of both Ishpeming and Marquette locations as needed to support human resources activities. This is a non-exempt position which could be part-time or full-time depending on the preference of the candidate. Primary Responsibilities:

  • Personnel management support including writing job postings, recruiting and selecting quality applicants to fill vacancies, onboarding new employees, and recommending improvements to the performance evaluation process.
  • Payroll administration support including timely processing of payroll utilizing outsourced payroll service provider, review of employee timecards for accuracy, data entry of employee wage and deduction changes, and maintenance of PTO balances.
  • Benefit administration support for all employee benefit programs including health/dental/vision insurance, life insurance, disability insurance, retirement programs, and leaves of absence. Counsel employees with benefit questions, assist with open enrollment, and resolve issues with various carriers as needed.
  • Training and development support including the coordination of logistics for all staff training days and ensuring employees complete required trainings.
  • Assist with policy development and compliance support by reviewing the employee handbook and related policies to ensure compliance with current federal and state guidelines recommending changes where appropriate.
  • Foster a positive work environment providing suggestions to improve recruitment/retention strategy and overall employee experience.
  • Maintain thorough and current knowledge of federal and state regulations keeping abreast of changes that need to be incorporated into credit union policies.

Minimum Education:      Coursework toward a Bachelor’s Degree
