Community and Family Engagement Associate (AmeriCorps)

Heart House Community and Family Engagement Associate (AmeriCorps)

Heart House is an education non-profit that serves refugee, immigrant, and under-resourced children with a holistic out-of-school and summer program, utilizing literacy and social emotional learning (SEL) to help them thrive in their new community. We’re located in the same Vickery Meadow (NE Dallas) area as these families, offering a safe space for kids to learn, gain new experiences, and grow. We’re dedicated to meeting the academic and emotional needs of refugee and immigrant children, because every child deserves a chance to reach their full potential.

The AmeriCorps Community & Family Engagement Associate will support the program by coordinating volunteers, assisting with volunteer check-in, communicating with families and assisting in planning events.

Primary duties include:

  • Create innovative strategies for recruiting and coordinating volunteers to serve in the program.
  • Attend community events to recruit students and families to the program.
  • Develop family engagement activities.
  • Act as a mentor for students and build positive relationships with them.
  • Participate in various training and professional development activities.
  • Assist with administering student assessments and collecting data.
  • Communicate with families about Heart House program information.

Members also assist with program-related special projects and events as determined by site staff, if these requests are within the AmeriCorps guidelines and do not take away time from essential functions. Examples of these activities include field trips, helping with program events, such as program registration, back to school fairs, Family Fun Nights, holiday events, etc.

AmeriCorps CFE Associates will check in with the Community and Family Engagement Coordinator daily.
This location requires a total service commitment of 675 hours.
