As a web developer assistant, you'll be responsible for creating and updating websites for the Center for Teaching and Learning, located on the first floor of the University Library at IU Indianapolis.

We are looking for a motivated self-starter who loves learning and can work collaboratively within a professional team. Join us and embark on an exciting journey of skill development and creativity! Applications will be reviewed on an ongoing basis, with interviews starting in mid-August.

 

Job Details:

This work study web developer assistant will assist the Center for Teaching and Learning webmaster with creating and maintaining numerous websites for campus units. This includes responsibilities such as using online content management systems, modifying CSS, debugging JavaScript, jQuery, Vue, and innovate new web designs.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

50% - Design/content management within IU Branding guidelines

25% - Design usability and testing of websites/pages for mobile and desktop devices

10% - Time management for projects to manage upcoming changes and pivot when necessary

5% - Front desk/clerical duties as assigned (when applicable)

5% - Other duties as assigned

 

Approx. Hours Per Week:

8-15 (depending on Federal Work Study award)

Hourly wage: $12/per hour

Availability: Requires weekly availability Monday through Friday, during the hours of 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. (We will work with your course schedule.)

 

Qualifications:

To qualify for this job, you must be eligible for Federal Work Study and:

  • Have experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook
  • Have an understanding and able to execute typography and visual design principals
  • Knowledge of and or willing to learn and be able to execute to the IU Brand guidelines and accessibility
  • Ability to learn new technology and programs in support of events, marketing tactics, and office support
  • Ability to deal with and manage deadlines
  • Ability to interact with colleagues in a professional manner
  • Ability to work in a team setting and embrace a solution-oriented attitude
  • Interpersonal skills using tact, patience, and courtesy
  • Have patience for receiving feedback and making updates
  • Be detail oriented, creative, and tech-savvy
  • Adept in English language usage, grammar, spelling, punctuation, and vocabulary
  • Ability to transform complex layouts into HTML/CSS templates
  • Solid understanding of cross-browser/platform issues and constraints
  • Working knowledge of managing content using online content management systems, modifying CSS, debugging JavaScript, jQuery, and innovate new web designs.

Requirements:

  • Freshman, Sophomore, Junior or Senior (earliest graduation date May 2025)
  • 2.5 GPA
  • Graphic design experience
  • Web developer/design major
  • Federal Work Study Awarded for Fall/Spring 24-25
  • YOU MUST BE AN UNDERGRADUATE IU STUDENT

Innovator: Student will learn to research, create, and design solutions, confront challenges, and make decisions; develop and design webpages and participate in the development of web applications; learn and utilize best practices in project management. Demonstrate proficiency in the design, development and production that follow the IU Brand Marketing Guidelines that will be presented online.

Problem Solver: Student will learn to think critically, collaborate with others, analyze, research, and evaluative information and situations; Student will utilize resources and support systems to be self-sufficient in tasks and projects. Possess strong organizational skills and follow through on projects in a timely fashion.

Community Contributor: Student will learn to build community, respectfully engage with all cultures, behave ethically, and anticipate consequences. Student will develop familiarity with the communication needs of academic stakeholders on various levels such as Director and Assistant Directors, faculty, staff, students, and administrators.
