Gain real world experience, hone your talents, and propel your growth by creating and updating graphical assets for the Center for Teaching and Learning, which is located on the first floor of the University Library on the IU Indianapolis campus. We are looking for a self-starter who is willing to learn and work on a professional team.

Job Details:

The Graphic Design Assistant will design graphics, flyers, banners, posters and promotional items for departmental events and social media pages. The assistant also may have other related duties assigned.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

50% - Design/content management within IU Brand guidelines

25% - Design usability and testing of graphics for mobile and desktop devices

10% - Time management and updating of CTL graphic assets

5% - Front desk/clerical duties as assigned (when applicable)

5% - Other duties as assigned

 

Approx. Hours Per Week:

8-15 (depending on Federal Work Study award)

Hourly wage: $12/per hour

  

Availability:

Requires weekly availability Monday through Friday, during the hours of 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. (We will work with your school schedule.)

 

Qualifications:

To qualify for this job, you must be eligible for Federal Work Study and:

  • Have experience with Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, and/or InDesign
  • Have experience with PowerPoint, and Outlook
  • Have an understanding and able to execute typography and visual design principals
  • Knowledge of and or willing to learn and be able to execute to the IU Brand guidelines and accessibility
  • Ability to learn new technology and programs in support of events, marketing tactics and office support
  • Ability to and manage deadlines and pivot when necessary
  • Ability to interact with colleagues in a professional manner
  • Ability to work in a team setting, collaborate and embrace a solution oriented attitude
  • Interpersonal skills using tact, patience, and courtesy
  • Have patience for receiving feedback and making updates
  • Be detail oriented, creative, and tech-savvy
  • Adept in English language usage, grammar, spelling, punctuation, and vocabulary

Requirements:

  • Freshman, Sophomore, Junior or Senior (YOU MUST BE AN IU STUDENT, Undergraduate, with the earliest graduation date of May 2025)
  • 2.5 GPA
  • Graphic design experience
  • Art design major
  • Federal Work study award

Student Learning Outcome:

Ø Communication: Student will learn to actively listen, evaluate information, build relationships with staff member by working as a team to complete projects, and covey ideas effectively, verbally and through designs.

Ø Innovation: Student will learn to investigate situations, create and design solutions, confront challenges and make decisions; develop and design graphics with project management processes. Demonstrate proficiency in the design, development and production that follow the IU Brand Marketing Guidelines that will be presented online and in print communication using various programs such as Adobe InDesign, Photoshop, Publisher, etc.

Ø Problem Solving: Student will learn to think critically, collaborate with others, analyze, and evaluate information and situations; Student will utilize resources and support systems to be self-sufficient in tasks and projects. Possess strong organizational skills and follow through on projects in a timely fashion.

Ø  Community Contribution: Student will learn to build community, respectfully engage with all cultures, behave ethically, and anticipate consequences. Student will develop familiarity with the communication needs of academic stakeholders on various levels such as Director and Assistant Directors, faculty, staff, students and administrators.
