Student Trainee (Park Guide)

 

These positions are located in Jean Lafitte National Historical Park and Preserve, in the Interpretation & Education Division.

This is an indefinite, Excepted Service appointment that may continue if you continue to meet the eligibility requirements under the Pathways Internship program and funding is available.

Interns may be eligible for non-competitive conversion to permanent employment.

As a Park Guide, you will perform the following duties:

  • Provides pre-established talks normally following a prescribed outline of interest peculiar to the site.
  • Provides general information regarding sites of public interest and facilities for public use.
  • Guides large groups of individuals on fixed routes.
  • Maintains order in parties, preventing crowding or damage to historic sites.
  • Assist assistance to visitors on lost articles, car trouble, and first aid.
  • Provides information on weather conditions, highway routes, and park and concessioner facilities.
  • Provides public orientation and explanations of current park events and potential safety hazards.
  • Performs minor maintenance duties to ensure a clean and safe work area.
  • Issues camping and/or wilderness cabin permits.
  • Conducts fee collection duties to include issuing park passes and managing the park pass program.
