Our Objective
Heroes of Color, LLC is an education company promoting culture and entrepreneurship through art, animation, books, and creative programs. Our new initiative, “The Junior Animators,” is a pilot program designed to introduce digital animation to 5th graders in the National School District in San Diego. Students will learn how to animate on iPads, and create 15-30 second public service announcements that raise awareness of social justice issues based on the 17 SDG's of the United Nations.
Job Description
We are hiring animation instructors passionate about using art for activism. We will provide instructors with a curriculum to follow. You will use iMovie and an animation app called Rough Animator. Paid training will be provided. If chosen, you will be paired with another instructor for additional support in the classroom. The schedule is still being created but candidates will work (4 hours) a day, Monday-Friday during school hours between 9am and 3pm. Instructors will visit two schools each week. At the end of the program, we will celebrate the students' hard work with a student animation film festival at the UCSD Park & Market building to showcase their films. Responsibilities
Lead 90-minute animation workshops
Animate using Rough Animator app on iPads (using Apple Pencil)
When applicable, take photos, record short videos during class (for company blog)
Create storyboards, edit videos on iMovie
Upload pictures and videos to Discord group (for blog)
Qualifications
Outgoing, ability to excite, connect, and lead a classroom of students
Familiarity with iMovie a must, familiarity with Rough Animator is a bonus
Experience working with elementary school students in a classroom or after-school
Desire to inspire, motivate and empower students of color
A website or digital portfolio with animation samples
Pass criminal background check via fingerprinting before hiring
Have reliable means of transportation
